Letter from Molly, MEP

27 May 2014

Here's a letter from Molly Scott Cato, released today to the media

I am thrilled and honoured to have been elected as the first Green Party MEP from the South West. Together we made history last week and I pledge to work hard as your representative in the European Parliament, whether you voted for me or not.

The South West bucked the trend in this election. Many voters have shown they reject the politics of fear and division, electing Green and Labour representatives and preventing UKIP strengthening its position in the region. This is also a sign of the way people in our region are reacting to the neglect shown them by the Westminster establishment; they are responding not with negativity but a belief that an alternative vision based on mutual respect and greater local resilience is possible.

As a Green politician I hope to be able to support moves towards improving quality of life and bringing real prosperity in the South West. We have fantastic resources in our skilful people, our beautiful natural environments, our rich soils, and our fabulous potential for renewable energy. I hope to be part of a move to use these fairly and wisely in the service of all the South West's people.

Finally, I see part of my role as working with the media to encourage a better connection of people with politics, and the European Union.
