Mudeford and Friars Cliff by-election

16 February 2017

Dr Fiona CownieSouth East Dorset Green Party is pleased to announce that we will be standing a candidate, Dr Fiona Cownie, in the Mudeford and Friars Cliff by-election to be held on Thursday 2nd March.

Here is Fiona's candidate statement:

"Proud to represent the Green Party with its focus on community and environment, Dr Fiona Cownie has lived in Christchurch for over 20 years.  Over much of that time she has been a working mother, combining caring for two sons with her work at Bournemouth University.  Mudeford and Friars Cliff are close to Fiona’s heart.  She and her husband married at All Saints Church and she can be seen early morning running along the beach, past our wonderful cafes and onto Steamer Point.  Fiona hopes that her life and work experiences alongside her energy and passion will enable her to represent and support those who live in Mudeford and Friars Cliff.

Her statement of policy focus points can be read here.

Fiona’s support for the Green Party is long-standing.  She is a great supporter of Caroline Lucas and the Green Party’s leadership stance on UK, global and European issues.  Fiona is deeply concerned about the UK’s move away from Europe and its implications for the environment and community on a local, UK and international scale.

A message of support has been received from Caroline Lucas, joint leader of the Green Party, who said:

"I wish the Greens the best of luck in this byelection. Last year the people of Dorset elected the first Green onto the County Council - paving the way for further success. By voting for Fiona you can be sure of electing someone who will fight your corner and stand up for your interests. For properly funded social care, the protection of the environment and for clean beaches I urge you to vote Green on 2nd March."
