South East Dorset Green Party was represented again at this year's Freshers' Fair, held at Bournemouth University on Saturday 23rd September.
The stall was manned by members Soo and Anne, who were joined by John Tutton, the Green Party candidate for North Dorset in the last General Election. His dog Jarob was one of the main attractions at the stall!
There was a great deal of interest among the students, leading to many questions and conversations about Green Party policies. About 40 students signed up to receive further information about the local party and our activities.
A new venture starting soon is a monthly social gathering. While this is aimed particularly at new members and those who cannot get to the regular monthly meeting (held in the evening at Moordown Community Centre on the last Wednesday of the month) it was decided this would be an ideal opportunity to meet with students, and consequently we were publicising this event on our stall. We hope to see many students at our first gathering, to be held on Sunday 15th October at the Conto Lounge, 418 Wimborne Rd, Bournemouth BH9 2HB, from 10.00am onwards for coffee/brunch.
Another feature of our stall was our petition against the A338-Wessex Fields development (for more details see our earlier news item), and many signatures were added.
During the course of the day, our representatives managed to visit some of the other stalls and had friendly conversations with both the Labour and Liberal Democrat stall-holders, as well as the Dorset Humanists who invited us to collaborate with them in a project they will be running later this year.
