Well Being and Earth Day Festival, and Green Community Fair, in Boscombe this April

28 March 2018

Boscombe Community Well Being and Earth Day Festival will take place during the week running up to Earth Day which this year is on Sunday 22nd April. The Community Event & Volunteering Network (CEN) is organising the event, including the Green Community Fair - bringing the outdoor event indoors again in the Sovereign Centre, Boscombe.

Over the five days of the Festival – Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd April 2018 – there will be an exciting range of stalls, workshops, talks, therapies and activities, as well as live entertainment on the stage.  And, as usual, there will be allergy free and cruelty free refreshments and community lunches available.

Earth Day always falls on 22nd April and was first celebrated in 1970.  Today there are Earth Day events in more than 193 countries coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.  This year the Earth Day Network is working to secure a future free of plastic pollution.

The Sovereign Centre is once again playing host to local group Community Event and Volunteering Network (CEN) and has also kindly allowed Green Community Fair to bring their outdoor event indoors for a BoscommUNITY EARTH DAY celebration on the eve of and during the weekend of Earth Day.  There are no admission charges.

Local community groups and charities and their volunteers are invited by CEN to occupy the Sovereign Centre’s walkways with their stalls at the 'BoscommUNITY's' WELL BEING & EARTH DAY Festival to promote their cause, raise awareness, recruit more volunteers, and fundraise.

Also in the Sovereign Centre on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th April, and as a ‘thank you’ to local heroes, CEN are arranging donation based ‘Well Being’ workshops, bite sized self-care discussions, ideas and practices, taster healing treatments and pampering sessions exclusively available to Volunteers and other unpaid workers.  CEN’s work in community investment includes organising events and opportunities for volunteers and offering training and other management and administrative support for better organisation.  CEN offerings presented at the Earth Day festival will also include their Volunteer Forum as well as an Occupational Health & Well-being innovation by “The Paperwork Fairy” to help Managers retain, support and mentor volunteers and employees.

Then the ‘acts of kindness’ theme continues on Friday as the festival gets into full swing for the Earth Day weekend and there will be other family friendly environmental themed promotions, demos, activities, performances, music and stalls.

Over the weekend, the Sovereign Centre will be transformed into an outdoor festival held indoors by Green Community Fair.  The Well-being area, which was previously exclusively open for Volunteers and unpaid workers, will be accessible to the public with alternative healing, eco-friendly beauty products and treatments.  There will also be recycled craft workshops and an art exhibition to peruse, with eco-friendly stalls and demos from traditional and local crafts people and producers nestled alongside charities and community group stalls.

Local folk band “The Lost Tribe of the Tea Cup Turtles” will be co-ordinating enchanting and magical music for Friday, and over the weekend talented volunteers from local charities and community groups will take the stage, joined by guest artists with talks, poetry, musical, theatrical and walkabout performances too.

If you would like to book a stall, contribute in any way, or would like further information, please call Sam the Paperwork Fairy on 01202 386348,
