May 2nd Local Election: Know Your Voting Rights

EU nationals will be able to vote in the May 2nd council elections.

British and British Commonwealth citizens are also eligible to vote. You have to be 18 years old to vote.

Student living away from home, in a different council area?

In general elections, students can vote in their home area OR their university area
In local elections, students can vote in their home area AND their university area
Everyone must be registered to vote at their current address(es):

Register to vote now at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - it's quick and easy, you just need your National Insurance Number.

Note:

The voting rights of EU nationals in local elections are written into UK law, and will not automatically expire with Brexit. The UK government has confirmed that there will be no change to voting law before May 2nd.
