A Green Vote in Bournemouth is a Vote to leave the Poole Bay Oil in the Seabed, and recognise the Climate Emergency

30 March 2019

Simon Bull, Anti-drillingDeclaring a climate emergency in Bournemouth will be the very first proposal by Green Party councillors you elect on 2nd May to the new Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council. Other councils around the country have already declared climate emergency.

We have about five years to make a difference to the climate. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) say the urgent changes needed are “affordable and feasible”.

This May 2nd, YOU have the opportunity to demand immediate proper action in our town - by voting Green. The Green Party is the only progressive party with a council seat in Bournemouth - Councillor Simon Bull in Winton East.

Councillor Simon Bull said: “The Green Party have been leading the movement up and down the country to have climate emergencies declared in councils. Bournemouth needs to make a declaration consistent with the IPCC report, which puts on Council the onus to do something, to take action. We must do what we can, so our children and our children's children have a future they can enjoy.”

Chris Rigby, Anti-drillingChris Rigby, the second Green Party candidate in Winton East bidding to win election alongside Simon Bull, said: "We need to start making changes now. We need targets to actually get sustainability into practice - not just talk about it. As the Green Party, we recognise that climate change is going to affect us locally and globally. That’s why we’re going to continue to stand against the extraction of fossil fuels. We’re going to promote the use of renewable energy, and we’re going to take the lead on driving towards zero-carbon economies. What that means is that we have to start somewhere, and this is where we’re starting now."
