Boycott Workfare Week of Action

1 February 2013

18th – 24th March at various locations in Poole and Bournemouth

The Government is pushing ahead with increasingly savage workfare policies despite the fierce resistance to the scheme causing many high street names and national charities to pull out. Unemployed people can now be sentenced to six months compulsory unpaid work as part of the Community Action Programme.

On December 3rd last year – International Disabled People’s Day – the DWP introduced forced work for sick and disabled claimants.

BPACC and other local groups will be holding events as part of the Boycott Workfare Week of Action. Leaflets and stickers will be handed outside the various providers who operate The Work Programme (and thus participate in supplying forced unpaid labour), Jobcentres and local shops who are known to participate in unpaid work placements.

The number of organisations we can cover during this week will depend on the number of people who are able and willing to help. The events will be held in the mornings approx 9/10.30am and lunch times 11.30/1.30am. If you are able to help, please advise details of the days / times you are free by replying to this email.
