A Parade Not a Protest

15 June 2014

Yes to Wind Parade

A merry band of cyclists and walkers dressed in green and waving windmills converged on Bournemouth Pier at midday on Saturday 14th June. Two separate groups paraded along the promenade to draw the public's attention to the consultation period for the prospective wind farm. The pro-Navitus campaigners set off from Bistro on the Beach at the Southbourne end of the promenade and from Jazz's in Shore Road at the Sandbanks end. They were joined by kayakers heading in from the sea at Bournemouth Pier where they continued to encourage the public in active participation in favour of the prospective wind park.

Michael Hodges, Chair of the South East Dorset Green Party, said, "At a time when the whole nation needs to benefit from clean sources of energy it is wonderful that we have this marvellous opportunity to provide serious amounts of electricity off our shores. Our economy and tourism will benefit, as it has elsewhere, from the job opportunities available and from visitors who will come to admire this magnificent project.

"The families celebrating here with us in Bournemouth have enjoyed themselves while calling for people to sign up in favour of Navitus."
