'We are supporting our community through a difficult time, delivering essential information in a very low risk fashion'

"Useful numbers" card delivered to Winton East residentsCouncillor Chris Rigby has responded to questions posed on Twitter regarding recent delivery of 'keep safe' cards to Winton East households containing essential numbers for local services and support.

Chris says: "We were deliberately out delivering because of the pandemic, not in spite of it, in order to assist people in coping during lockdown. We are supporting our community through a difficult time, delivering essential information in a very low risk fashion in line with best practice and the law. While the Conservatives may wish to sit aside during such a challenging period for our community, we knew we had a responsibility to deliver important information to help people in need.

"Signposting residents to Council services and other sources of local support is a key job of ward councillors, and Winton East residents are used to hearing regularly from their councillors all year round.

"Public Health England has given political parties and Royal Mail advice that people are not at risk of contracting coronavirus through leaflets and letters. With returning to spending more time in the house and more residents likely to be isolating, it is vital they are provided with important contact details including the local Covid support hotline, environmental health, 111 and the Samaritans, as well as our own.

"This year we have had more anti-social behaviour complaints and more contact from residents requiring support in one form or another and we wanted to ensure that all residents had the most up to date details readily available. Now we have delivered these leaflets we are not planning on delivering any more as we hope the information we have shared is sufficient for the time being."
