Volunteer in a local green team
We’ve been hard at work building the foundations to get more Greens elected to BCP Council in the next scheduled election in May 2027 – and we need more help on the ground, now.
Could you deliver a bundle of our community newsletters, door-to-door, in the residential streets of any of:
- Queen’s Park & Charminster
- East Cliff & Springbourne
- Moordown
- Winton East
- Parkstone
You can leaflet in your own time, so perhaps if you don’t live locally but you’re sometimes in that part of Bournemouth or Poole, or you can get there, you could still help.
It’s by letting residents know, by delivering regular newsletters, about the local work of the Green Party all year round, plus salient bitesize news from the local corridors of power, that voters come to form an active and positive impression of the Green Party locally. Then and only then, voters will be open in sufficient numbers come election-time to ‘Vote Green’ messages, for us to win! And we know from all four of the Green General Election wins in 2024: viable future Green Parliamentary campaigns must be founded on a strong base of local council seats.
Connect with other local party members
BCP Greens use two digital platforms for internal messaging:
- WhatsApp, our online cafe/bar space
- Mattermost – our online war room.
The Mattermost invite link and easy instructions for use, and a signup form for the WhatsApp community, can be accessed by Green Party members:
Come to a member meeting
BCP Greens meet in the last week of each month (except August and December), on either a Monday or a Wednesday, from 7pm-9pm, usually with Zoom dial-in available.
Meeting invites are sent to all paid-up members we have permission to contact. An events calendar can be found on the front page of this website. For further information about forthcoming meetings please email the Secretary.
Minutes of meetings, plus governing documents, are posted in the ‘Files’ section of the BCP Green Party Green Space.
Stand for bcp council
We are seeking enthusiastic, committed and hard-working candidates and campaign managers to help prepare for the next council elections in their ward. The next full BCP Council election will be in May 2027 – but preparing properly to strongly compete takes anything from 12-24+ months, and the earlier you start the better. Additionally by-elections can be called for a number of reasons at short notice, so we have to be prepared at all times!
Green Party candidates and senior organisers must be paid-up members of the Green Party and support its main aims and policies. We are particularly keen to ensure diversity amongst our candidates. A variety of training resources and peer support will be available.

- Read the brochure: Stand for what you believe in: Be a Green Party councillor [PDF] – a Local Government Association/Green Party publication
- Order a copy of the Green Party of England & Wales’ How to Win Local Elections manual: “Virtually all of our recently elected councillors would not have been elected without the guidance of this 250 page manual. It is a vital guide whether you are new to election campaigning or have been campaigning for ages and wondering why you are not getting anywhere. The guide was commissioned by The Green Party and written by four experienced strategists, who themselves consulted dozens of elected Greens and the latest research to cull exactly how to conduct an election campaign.”

Express your interest
Email Kate Salmon (BCP Green Party Elections Coordinator and Nominating Officer) to register your interest in being an active council candidate or campaign manager, outlining any relevant experience, skills and/or existing community involvement, identifying where you live, and initial ideas on the amount of time you expect to have to campaign between now and May 2027.
