Alasdair Keddie topped the poll to be elected as Green Party Councillor for Queen’s Park & Charminster in the May 2023 BCP Council election.

Alasdair was elected in 2024, and re-elected in 2025, as Chair of the Dorset Police & Crime Panel. This countywide councillor panel holds the directly elected Police & Crime Commissioner to account in meeting policing priorities in the county,

Alasdair is also currently the Vice-Chair of BCP Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee.

Alasdair has lived, worked and studied in Bournemouth for 30 years, the last 23 of these in Charminster, and it is where he has chosen to raise his young family. Alasdair says: “I am committed to improving Queen’s Park and Charminster for everyone who lives here.”

Alasdair’s background is in IT and business. After graduating from Bournemouth University in the 1990s, he worked as a technical consultant for IBM, then as a self-employed consultant working on open source software projects. He now owns his own local small business. He is a passionate environmental campaigner, and long-standing member of Greenpeace. He is experienced in organising fund-raising events and activities, and has led campaigns against rainforest destruction, oil drilling and fracking.

  • Low water levels in Queen’s Park pond: “A huge amount of effort” going on, and full programme of remedial works booked, says Alasdair Keddie
    Councillor Alasdair Keddie (Queen’s Park & Charminster) says: “The low water levels in Queen’s Park pond this year have been a big concern, I would like to assure everyone that a huge amount of effort has been going on behind the scenes to try and address this.  There is a full programme of works now booked in for this winter to preserve the long term future of the pond.”
  • Work underway to regenerate Queen’s Park Play Area
    Work is now underway to regenerate the Woodpecker Play Area at Queen’s Park. Over Summer half-term, children were invited to look at the options for new play equipment and vote for what they liked the most.
  • New investment for all three Queen’s Park & Charminster green spaces secured by Alasdair Keddie
    Green Councillor for Queen’s Park & Charminster, Alasdair Keddie, has secured grant funding for essential repairs and upgrades at every green space in the ward: * £4,500 for repairs and improvements to the Strouden Park sports pavilion. * £8,000 to support regeneration of Cyril Park – which has not seen any meaningful upgrade in more than 10 years. * £7,000 for removal and replacement of the condemned pond viewing platform at Queen’s Park.
  • Fly-tipping in Queen’s Park & Charminster: Enforcement actions underway after evidence secured by Alasdair Keddie
    While doing his regular rounds of litter-picking and reporting fly-tipping for BCP Council clearance, Councillor Alasdair Keddie (Queen’s Park & Charminster) has searched through fly-tipped waste, looking for evidence of names and addresses. On seven separate occasions he has found such evidence. He has passed each on to BCP Council’s Enforcement Team, who have opened actions.
  • Volunteers step up for new Graffiti Removal Scheme in Queen’s Park & Charminster
    Hard-working Green Councillor for Queen’s Park & Charminster, Alasdair Keddie, has set up a trial Graffiti Removal Scheme in the area. He worked with the Queen’s Park & Charminster Neighbourhood Forum to secure Ward Improvement funding.
  • Major progress in reducing Charminster’s nightlife violence
    Green councillor for Queen’s Park & Charminster, Alasdair Keddie, has been elected as Vice-Chair of BCP’s decision-making councillors for venue licensing applications and reviews. Alasdair commented: “The nighttime economy has been an early priority for me. In Charminster, we’ve seen anti-social behaviour escalating into serious violence, with irresponsibly run venues and breaches of licensing principles. “However, a huge amount has been achieved in the last 18 months.”
  • Queen’s Park & Charminster Neighbourhood Plan underway to give community more control and investment
    Queen’s Park & Charminster Neighbourhood Forum has started work on developing a Neighbourhood Plan. Alasdair Keddie says: “A Neighbourhood Plan allows the community to take more control over planning decisions. “We can set local policies saying we want to develop more affordable family homes, and fewer one-bedroom flats and Houses in Multiple Occupation. “It’ll also unlock increases in the levy we can charge developers to fund local community infrastructure.”
  • Queen’s Park Adventure Play Area to be renewed after £73,000 grant secured
    The Woodpecker Play Area in Queen’s Park is set to be renewed, with a £73,000 grant secured from the Veolia Environmental Trust. The project will include new play equipment, improved facilities, and enhancements to the surrounding environment – making Queen’s Park an even better place for our community to come together. Hard-working Green Councillor for Queen’s Park & Charminster, Alasdair Keddie, identified a suitable grant fund to apply to, and worked with the Queen’s Park & Charminster Neighbourhood Charity and BCP Council’s Greenspace Team to get the successful application in motion.
