Following a grassroots campaign supported and led by your Green ward councillors, Joe and Kate Salmon, BCP Council has abandoned its plan to close the much-loved Moordown Plus day centre. The centre provides a “gold standard” daytime facility for older people living with dementia, and is a lifeline for both service users and their carers.

Green Party councillors for Moordown Joe Salmon and Kate Salmon have worked with council officers to ensure that new play equipment is installed at Moordown Recreation Ground. Last year there was another arson attack (see photo inset) on new play equipment which had previously been left uninsured by BCP Council.

This was alongside Simon Bull and Chris Rigby being safely returned in WINTON EAST with even bigger vote shares and majority percentages than last time.

Moordown campaigner Joe Salmon said: "We've contacted the Council on multiple occasions about [dog fouling]. One thing they were considering was the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order. This would really help the Council be able to properly enforce preventative measures. However, action on this seems to have stalled due to budget pressures." Conservative-run BCP Council has been forced into £35.1m of budget cuts for 2023/24 - plus the maximum Council Tax rise.

The winter weather has brought a sharp increase in potholes and road defects appearing in Moordown. Castle Road has been particularly badly affected. Chris Rigby, Green Councillor for the neighbouring Winton East area, successfully got the largest hole fixed in January. Yet Moordown Green Party campaigner Kate Salmon is concerned at signs that the road is in overall bad repair.
