Councillor Sara Armstrong (East Cliff & Springbourne) writes: "Thank you Cllr Kieron Wilson (Independent, Muscliff & Strouden Park) for taking the time to meet with myself, staff and residents at Vale Lodge this afternoon. "We caught up on progress made regarding the gates (still some work to do but getting there), heard about the partnership with Grounded Community and how residents are benefitting from nutritious meals made in the kitchen, the social activities planned by staff and residents to combat loneliness (can't wait for the bingo!) and saw how the plants from Kings Park Nursery are settling in.

Today Sara Armstrong was delighted to meet Chris and Danny from BCP Council Highways for an update on the damaged drain. This first came to light last year as a direct result of residents and Sara as their councillor, lobbying officers to get the drain investigated and repaired. During this it came to light that a utility company had damaged the infrastructure and not reported it.

Councillor Sara Armstrong (East Cliff & Springbourne) writes: "This afternoon I've been out finding new homes out in the community for some of the legacy plants from the now closed Kings Park Nursery. Residents at Vale Road complex and Marchwood on Manor Road were only too pleased to plant these hardy perennials in their community gardens. Since the closure of Kings Park Nursery, I've also found new homes for plants at Knyveton Gardens Park and East Howe Youth Centre."

Green Councillor Simon Bull has been re-elected to serve a second year as Vice-Chair of BCP Council. Meanwhile Green Group Leader Councillor Chris Rigby has been re-elected as Chair of the Council’s Environment & Place Overview & Scrutiny Committee.

Green Councillors Alasdair Keddie (Queen's Park & Charminster) and Sara Armstrong (East Cliff & Springbourne) met with the BCP Graffiti Team as they were cleaning the underpass between their wards, by BH Live and Holdenhurst Road. Alasdair commented: "This underpass is regularly used by our residents as they go to school, work or the gym. We receive frequent reports that the graffiti makes people feel unsafe."

As of April 2024, Cyril Park and nearby alleyways were completely clear of litter and fly-tipping. Hard-working Green councillor for Queen's Park & Charminster Alasdair Keddie has frequently liaised with the BCP Cleansing Team, working to fix these issues, and graffiti, across the Wessex Way area. He also picks litter himself daily after his school run – totalling at least 50 bags in the past year.

This is especially common practice in areas where parking is limited. I emailed the manager of the Enforcement Team about this today who responded as follows:

Councillor Sara Armstrong (East Cliff & Springbourne) says: "Last May, myself and my dedicated team of East Cliff and Springbourne Green community volunteers started taking action to tackle the condition of road signage and street furniture across the ward as part of our commitment to 'cleaner, safer, greener streets'. "I'm pleased to report we are starting to see some green shoots of change! "The road signage on Spring Road after years of neglect has finally been cleaned of graffiti and given a much needed spruce up.
