Chris Rigby works as technical lead for a solar energy co-operative, putting local environmental aspirations into practice every day. He is also an active member of Greenpeace UK as well as local environmental groups.

  • BCP Council unanimously passes Green motion to support Climate & Nature Bill
    BCP Council has unanimously passed a motion proposed by Green Councillors Kate Salmon and Chris Rigby, to publicly support the Climate & Nature Bill being put before Parliament. Proposing the motion at Full Council, Kate Salmon said: “The Climate & Nature Bill represents the most up-to-date and science-led thinking on how the UK should tackle the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. The Bill, written by scientists and experts, was first introduced to Parliament in 2020, by former Green Party MP Caroline Lucas. At that time it was called the Climate & Ecology Bill, and it followed the declaration by the UK Government, and by councils across the country – including this one – of a Climate & Ecological Emergency.”
  • Chris Rigby working with St Luke’s School, Winton, for less traffic and safer journeys
    Now that there is a new permanent Headteacher in place at St Luke’s School in Winton East, Green Councillor Chris Rigby is once again helping with the development of a school travel plan. Chris has been speaking to Mr Godfrey and they are working with BCP’s Sustainable Travel team. The first aim is to find ways to reduce the traffic congestion around the school at dropoff/pickup times. Chris added: “Once that’s done, we can look at other schemes to assist the school, and try to make it safer for the kids getting there in the mornings.”
  • Winton’s Christmas lights return – after local businessman’s fundraising effort assisted by Chris Rigby
    In 2023, Winton’s Christmas lights were cancelled, and BCP Council decided not to provide them any more, as part of ongoing cuts. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Karl Payne, director of The Forge Garage in Winton, Winton East Green councillor Chris Rigby was able to work with him and BCP Council to get them back in place for 2024.
  • Winton Library Gardens fully reopened with ribbon-cutting ceremony
    The back section of Winton Library Gardens, which had been closed for many years following anti-social behaviour issues, finally reopened with a celebratory ceremony on Saturday 13th July, attended by Winton East’s Green councillors Simon Bull and Chris Rigby, plus the Chair of BCP Council. Volunteers from BH9 Business Community cut a ribbon to officially open the garden.
  • Simon Bull continues as BCP Council Vice-Chair, Chris Rigby as scrutiny chair
    Green Councillor Simon Bull has been re-elected to serve a second year as Vice-Chair of BCP Council. Meanwhile Green Group Leader Councillor Chris Rigby has been re-elected as Chair of the Council’s Environment & Place Overview & Scrutiny Committee.
  • BCP Council budget of more swingeing cuts passed – without green support
    BCP Council has passed its budget for 2024/25, with further cuts totalling £41m. The cuts include reductions to library opening hours, plus permanent closure of King’s Park Plant Nursery. This is the ongoing result of 14 years of austerity cuts to councils’ funding from central Government – their main income source.   • Green councillors attend service of thanksgiving and peace at Bournemouth Community Hebrew Synagogue
    Councillor Sara Armstrong wrote: “What a privilege to join my Green Group colleagues [Cllr Chris Rigby, Cllr Kate Salmon and Cllr Joe Salmon] for a service of thanksgiving and peace at Bournemouth Community Hebrew Synagogue today by invitation of our Mayor Cllr Anne Filer.
  • Alasdair Keddie joins Chris Rigby in work to improve student/community relations
    Hard-working Councillor Alasdair Keddie (Queen’s Park & Charminster) joined Councillor Chris Rigby (Winton East) at the Community Harmony And Respect Meeting (CHARM) at Bournemouth University (BU). CHARM aims to improve relationships between BU students and our permanent resident communities, with a focus on minimising anti-social behaviour and environmental health issues.
