Green Councillor for Queen's Park & Charminster, Alasdair Keddie, has secured grant funding for essential repairs and upgrades at every green space in the ward: * £4,500 for repairs and improvements to the Strouden Park sports pavilion. * £8,000 to support regeneration of Cyril Park - which has not seen any meaningful upgrade in more than 10 years. * £7,000 for removal and replacement of the condemned pond viewing platform at Queen’s Park.

Since being elected two years ago, hard-working Green Councillor for East Cliff & Springbourne, Sara Armstrong, has brought £103,400 of extra investment into our area. Sara has personally written and worked with local groups to make applications, resulting in securing grants, and Community Infrastructure funding levied from developers. This is supporting projects that matter to local people - from safer parks and better bins, to improved green spaces and community facilities.

Earlier this month Councillor Sara Armstrong met with her East Cliff & Springbourne ward colleague Cllr Moriarty and BCP Council officers from Greenspaces and Economic Development to discuss the use of the Prosperity Fund in the ward. £10,000 has been allocated to enhance the Springbourne district area. Improvements will focus on the area around the pocket park at Springbourne Library.

Today Sara Armstrong was delighted to meet Chris and Danny from BCP Council Highways for an update on the damaged drain. This first came to light last year as a direct result of residents and Sara as their councillor, lobbying officers to get the drain investigated and repaired. During this it came to light that a utility company had damaged the infrastructure and not reported it.

BCP Council has passed its budget for 2024/25, with further cuts totalling £41m. The cuts include reductions to library opening hours, plus permanent closure of King’s Park Plant Nursery. This is the ongoing result of 14 years of austerity cuts to councils’ funding from central Government – their main income source. Green councillors abstained in the budget vote.
